Large-scale hydrogen project in Texas, USA

Modern fire protection solution for one of the world’s largest hydrogen plants

Holzhauer Pumpen GmbH

Requirements

Our customer Linde is building a state-of-the-art hydrogen production plant in the US state of Texas with an investment volume of around 1.8 billion US dollars. The plant is part of a future-oriented energy infrastructure and will play an important role in the supply of green hydrogen – not only for the USA, but also for the international market.

For a project of this size and safety relevance, it was clear from the outset that the requirements for the fire protection technology were exceptionally high. The pumping station not only had to meet the highest technical standards, but also be suitable for extreme environmental conditions – including temperatures down to -29 °C, wind loads of up to 225 km/h and a medium-voltage connection with 4,160 volts. In addition, a complete implementation in accordance with the US American NFPA 20 standards, including UL-listed and FM-approved main components, was specified.

Solution

We supplied a fully equipped, ready-to-connect prefabricated pumping station in a plug & play design that is precisely tailored to the requirements of the site and the safety specifications.
The system includes:

  • Two powerful Tier 3 diesel powered fire pumps and a 4,160 volt medium voltage generator set
  • A pressure maintenance pump
  • An integrated, self-contained sprinkler system

All components were designed, manufactured and factory tested in accordance with NFPA 20. The system was delivered pre-assembled and is immediately ready for operation on site – in the interests of efficient and safe project execution.
